Built in 1896, the McLaren Lodge was for 47 years the home of John McLaren, the Park Superintendent and caretaker of Golden Gate Park. In front of the Lodge is a Monterey cypress nicknamed ‘Uncle John’s Tree’ and for 80 year has been San Francisco's official holiday tree.

Originally steam powered - the current jewel is a 1914 beauty. This is the 3rd carousel to be located in the Park. The Carousel is next to the Koret Children’s Quarter (formally the Children’s Playground) and Sharon Meadows.
